A Few Tips for Venting Stackable and Pedestal Dryers
It may seem obvious that the exhaust port on stackable and pedestal dryers will not be at the very bottom of the wall. There are, however, a few important things to keep in mind when installing the Dryerbox to efficiently collect exhaust hose that may not be quite so obvious.
Model DB-480 supports a standard install for floor and pedestal dryers. Most Important: Which Model: For stackables, you will always want to use either a model 350 or a 425. But wait, you say, it's noted throughout the site that those models are designed explicitly for upward venting and you need to vent through the floor. This, as they say, is the exception to the rule.
Downward Venting Notes
As noted above, you'll always want to use a model 350 (for 2X4 Walls) or a model 425 (for 2X6 Walls or 2X4 with a 1" Furring Strip) when installing for stackable or pedestal clothes dryers--even when venting down. Models 3D and 4D are for floor standing non-pedestal dryers because they are designed to be installed on the bottom plate. Models 350 and 425 install cleaner mid-wall, take up less cell space between the studs and allow for a more direct exhaust hose connection.
The installation to the right is for a pedestal dryer. You will note that it would not work for a regular floor level clothes dryer because there is insufficient width to collect the exhaust hose in the wall. The upward venting Dryerboxes are built narrower to leave more room for other trades in the cell of the wall.
The Dryerbox should be installed close to the floor as shown to the right for pedestal clothes dryers. For stackable units, see the guidelines below.
